South Fremantle’s rising singer-songwriter Angie Colman is set to release her deeply reflective new single, Alps of Victoria, on March 28. Taken from her upcoming EP How Do I Make My Life Slow Down (out in May), this track explores themes of uncertainty, self-doubt, and reevaluation—offering a window into Colman’s evolving journey through adulthood.
“It’s about getting older and being unsure. It’s a quarter-life crisis. Have I just been making stupid decisions this whole time? The pressure to be successful and positively contributing to society, and not knowing what that looks like with my life,” Colman shares.
Written during a pivotal time in her life, the track came to life in a modest Mt Lawley living room, where Angie often worked through creative self-doubt. “I wrote it at Jamie’s house when I was living in Mt Lawley, and Jamie came in and said, everything you write is so sad. I felt like even this I can’t get right. It came at a time when I was starting to wonder if making music was the right thing to do.”
Alps of Victoria marks the emotional midpoint of the upcoming EP and is a sonic embodiment of that reflective space. “It’s the middle track on the EP, a tune where I’m looking at my life and reevaluating things. This is a song that acknowledges how I feel sometimes about where my life is headed, where my life has been. It made sense to put it on the EP because it’s about the quarter-life crisis I’ve been having.”
Known for her soaring vocals and evocative songwriting, Angie Colman has quickly established herself as a force within Perth’s music scene. Her charm and relatability have led her to award-winning recognition, including a Song of the Year Award in the Folk category and two WAM Award nominations. She has also graced the stage alongside prominent artists like Sarah Blasko, Ella Hooper, Noah Dillon, Ben Lee, Peter Bibby, and Caravana Sun.
Over the past year, Colman has refined her sound with mentor and producer Ryan K Brennan (Phantastic Ferniture, Julia Jacklin), resulting in the raw and heartfelt songs featured on How Do I Make My Life Slow Down. Fans can expect a blend of vulnerability, lyrical introspection, and rich melodic textures.
