Band of friends Odlaw, band together for emotional new single ‘Friends Lose Friends’

Boorloo/ Perth indie-folk-punk outfit Odlaw announce the latest taste of their upcoming album Mi(l)d Life Crisis with single Friends Lose Friends.

Treated to its first play live over the weekend with a packed-out pre-release party at The Bird, Northbridge, the single has an underlying hint of mid-western emo (something that frontman Mark Neal grew up on) and sees the band exploring loss, grief, and friendship, which when combined has created a hard-hitting tune both musically and emotionally.

Mark shares, “I wrote this track after a night in our drummer, Jamie’s courtyard. We had some drinks, and the chatter started to descend into deeper territory. We shared stories of loss and relived the moments we found out. It was sad but beautiful. We understood each other’s experience, felt each other grieve, and collectively it helped us”

Friends Lose Friends joins recent singles Back To Your Bed and Car Door on Odlaw’s fourth studio album release Mi(l)d Life Crisis. A coming-of-age record for the 9-piece band who came together over a weekend to record the full album live with beloved engineer, producer, and The Love Junkies frontman Mitch McDonald at Sumo Studios in Osborne Park, WA

With a loud and high-energy live show sporting plenty of sing-alongs, tons of chaotic fun, and big infectious smiles radiating from each member, Odlaw has dubbed themselves as “Perth’s best house party band”, recently performing at RTRFM’s In the Pines Festival, supporting Sly Withers, and playing acoustic shows in Germany.

While joyous and energetic live, the new album blends all the elements of songwriting that make a band great. Raw and acoustic at times, amusing and electric at others, this single is a more triumphant and heartfelt piece of the puzzle.
