Odlaw release heart wrenching love song ‘Car Door’

THE 2ND SINGLE FROM UPCOMING ALBUM ‘MI(L)D LIFE CRISIS’

Odlaw strips things back and delves into more folk/ songwriter focused elements in their emotional new single Car Door. This is the second taste of the band’s forthcoming album titled Mi(l)d Life Crisis coming out in June – the 4th album from the WA-based outfit.

Car Door follows up recent single Back To Your Bed thematically and sonically, the 2 tracks slices of an album recorded fully live with the 9 piece band over a couple of weekends by engineer, producer, and The Love Junkies frontman Mitch McDonald at Sumo Studios in Osborne Park, WA. It’s a new direction for songwriter, singer, and guitarist Mark Neal and his band of beautiful friends.

A moving song about love that cuts a bit too deep at times, Mark explains; “this is a pretty simple tune, it was recorded in one take, it’s not overly complicated but the balance of sadness and love is what I really liked about it. It’s a little tender and foreshadowing, but it’s also actually a love song.”

He continues, “Pulling off a song that’s emotional and sad, but actually happy at the same time isn’t particularly easy. We ended up stripping most of the other instruments away and leaving it really sparse. I never intended to release this as a single, but people really connected to it and I’m so thrilled about that.”

With a big band comes a big live show, Odlaw previously treating audiences at Nannup Music Festival 2019, RTRFM Winter Music Festival 2020 and Since ‘77: 45 Years of RTRFM 2022, Way Way West Festival 2022, and most recently WAMFest 2023 and The Rosemount Hotels NYE with Sly Withers, Noah Dillon, and Siobhan Cotchin to a taste of their catchy tunes that come alive on stage. Loud and high energy, with plenty of sing-alongs, tons of chaotic fun, and big infectious smiles radiating from each member, Odlaw shows are an unforgettable experience for all involved.

Car Door is released just in time for the band’s appearance on stage alongside Sly Withers in Margaret River, and ticking off a bucket list item with a spot on this year’s RTRFM’s In The Pines Festival 2024. More info can be found at linktr.ee/odlawband
